Kellie: [00:00:00] Hi there. My name is Kellie Smith. I’m the training coordinator here at Kentucky SPIN and I wanted to reach out to you guys for just a minute regarding something that we’re doing here at Kentucky SPIN, that we’re calling act right, do right. With act right, do right, we are sharing some of our experiences.
And just really reaching out to people, asking them to act right and do right. When I went to the grocery store this week. They had, one way of the grocery store and one way out. As I’m walking in, two people are coming out the entrance. Of course there was a guy standing at the door, a greeter or something of that nature, but he was not enforcing anything and I realized that these people, that are employed by these stores [00:01:00] may not be, you know, compensated in a way that would make sense for them to be confrontational. Or maybe they don’t feel comfortable, being confrontational. either way, there was someone there, but they were not monitoring how people were coming and going. I was frustrated by that.
But I wasn’t scared by it. And, and let me insert this. I’m not afraid of getting sick. But what I am afraid of is, if what they say is true, I’m afraid of carrying it into my grandchild that lives in my home or my husband who has high blood pressure. Or my grandmother, if something happens and she needs me or my mother, if something were to happen and she needs me. And if I’m unknowingly [00:02:00] carrying this virus around, whether I’m sick or not, I would not want to infect anyone.
I don’t want to infect anyone with the flu, you know, just our normal flu. I don’t want to be sick and I don’t want to make anyone sick. In the past, like three weeks, four weeks now, I have no concept of time. I have started waking up at night having panic attacks. If you have never been awoken by a panic attack, then congratulations because they’re awful.
I have been extremely irritable. headaches, stomach aches, things I’ve never, experienced to the degree that I’m experiencing them now. And I realized that these are all manifestations of kind of mental stress and [00:03:00] things that, you know, we’re going through mentally and emotionally. I’ve always worked from home, well I’ve worked from home for several years now.
And, so being at home doesn’t bother me. I’m only going out once a week or once every two weeks. That doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is that, I have a lot of young people in my life. Who are not taking this seriously, and I have a really hard time with that because they are people that I love, not only my family members, but one of my closest friend’s husband just had a quadruple bypass.
You wouldn’t know that when you walk up to her. And you’re standing a foot from her in the grocery store. You wouldn’t know that you could potentially be carrying something, whether you’re sick or not, and that she could carry that back to her medically fragile husband. So what I’m asking is for you to [00:04:00] think of me and my family.
When you decide that you don’t want to wear a mask or you don’t want a social distance or you want to go out the wrong way or whatever the case may be. I’m asking you to please, think of my family, think of me, and to act right and do right.
