Carol: [00:00:00] Hi. I’m Carol Cecil, executive director for Kentucky partnership for families and children. Kentucky partnership for families and children, KPFC is a statewide nonprofit family organization, which means that our staff is made up of for 50% parents who have raised children with behavioral health challenges.
50% of our staff are adults who, as children had behavioral health diagnosis and receive services for behavioral health challenges. And our board of directors is made up from folks from all over the state and 51% of those are parents who are raising children with behavioral health challenges. So kind of nothing about us without us or those of us who have been there, done that, helping those who are there doing that.
Rhonda Logsdon from Kentucky SPIN has asked us to share some of the things that we’re doing because of [00:01:00] COVID. The act right, do right. Because of all the craziness going on right now. And so at KPFC, many of us are, doing work from home, doing lots and lots of conference calls and videos, learning how to do webinars.
Kentucky SPIN’s really good at that, I’m just learning it. Also we are, going to host some virtual parent cafes, and that’s not a specific training, but it’s a specific process to allow parents to get together and talk in a productive way, to learn from each other and just to be able to connect with other adults.
Usually that’s a face to face process, but in these times it’s going to be virtual. We’re having one tomorrow. I think it’s already full. Hopefully we will have more. So to keep up with that, like us on Facebook at Kentucky partnership for families and children inc at NC or visit our [00:02:00] website at partnership.org.
Personally, other things that I’m doing, to act right and do right. Of course, washing hands incessantly, using hand sanitizer. Staying away, I am doing the social distancing. So one of the things I’ve been doing with social distancing is for Easter, I have four adult children, so we did a zoom meeting, virtually so that we could all see each other.
It only lasted about 10 minutes, but it was a chance to catch up and to see each other. I also did a zoom meeting with my family, and I’ve done that a few times with my sisters and their daughters and my great nieces and nephew and my mom and my dad. And so those are ways, they might only last 5 or 10 minutes, but just seeing each other somehow calms my heart.
I’m also working puzzles, I’m watching movies, I’m working in the yard on the nice days. So those are some of the things that we’ve been doing to act right and do right during COVID-19 I hope some of those [00:03:00] ideas are helpful. Thanks and have a great day.
